Dolores Park Community Meeting, Sept 1

Mission High School

Dolores Park Works has organized a community meeting to discuss safety, law enforcement and the 19th & Dolores pedestrian crossing.

The big day is September 1st, from 6:00-8:00, at Mission High School cafeteria, which is located across from the tennis courts in Dolores Park (entrance to cafeteria off of Dolores & 18th).

We will be covering:

  • 19th & Dolores pedestrian safety & proposed changes
  • Park patron safety and law enforcement

We will be hearing from:

  • Captain Corrales, from the Mission Street Police Station
  • Eric Anderson, RPD Neighborhood Service Area Manager (replacing Bob Palacio)
  • Manito Velasco, Engineer, SFMTA
  • Ilaria Salvadori, SF Planning Department (Streetscape project)
  • Adrian Field, RPD Park Section Supervisor for the Mission Complex
  • Marcus Santiago, RPD Park Ranger

This is your chance to hear how and why the signs were installed, how laws will be enforced, and plans for 19th & Dolores traffic calming. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Please help us spread the word.

I don't think one officer should be tasked with a crowd of more than a thousand on a nice weekend. Some enforcement of littering and underage drinking might keep the park from becoming the bay areas high school hangout and get some folks to be more responsible.

Yesterday was summer, the park was filled.

Recently on another Mission blog, there have been pictures of the police on Motorcycles at Dolores Park, and reports - some say- of repeated sweeps of overly aggressively questioning people, and stopping the fun.

Yesterday the balance was right. There was one friendly and excellent police officer on a mountain bike. Thanks for making the adjustments, I think that a police on a mountain bike and a friendly attitude is about perfect!!!

We can discuss that a a future community meeting, likely the end of September, early October. I want to keep this meeting focused for now. Thanks for your input. I hope we will see you there.

Could the agenda also include a review of the solar trash compactor that is placed at 18th and Dolores, and view they could also be installed at 19th and Dolores? Plus you might update you calendar of events to include this important meeting on September 1. Thanks.
