Volunteer Opportunities Start Tomorrow

We have two projects coming up with rather short notice, our first gardening project and a weekend park clean up.
Hidalgo Flower Bed Redesign
We need our volunteer gardeners tomorrow, Tuesday, September 14, 10 AM. for the replanting of the Miguel Hidalgo flower bed.

Comite Civico in 2009 at the Hidalgo statue preparing for the Mexican Independence ceremony.

This is the first of what we hope will be a continuing and building effort to support and enhance the gardens of Dolores Park. We needed to work closely with Rec and Parks on this project, and wanted to install the new plantings before the Consulate General of Mexico presides over a solemn ceremony at the Hidalgo statue on Thursday, September 19 at 11 AM.

Adrian Fields, the supervisor for the Mission area parks is coordinating. He identified the need to redo the bed when we asked for a volunteer garden project.  I thought it was so fitting, as this month marks the 200th anniversary of the start of the fight for the Independence of Mexico.

Sf Arts Commission's Allison Cummings and marcus Davies inspect the statue.

We have also obtained generous support from Flora Grubb Nursery, for design and discount on the plants. Allison Cummings, senior registrar SF Arts Commission has evaluated both the Hidalgo statue and the Liberty Bell and has brought in an art conservator.

Joe Padilla, supervisor Rec and Parks paint shop, has repainted the back wall behind our statue and is now going over the entire park.

Clean Up on Sunday
Our second project is a park clean-up with the Rafael Mandelman for District 8 Supervisor campaign on Sunday, September 19, 1 PM.  Meet us and Rafael across the street from his home, on the corner of 20th Street and Dolores.
