District 8 Town Hall Meeting With Mayor Ed Lee

Scott Wiener, District 8 supervisor and Mayor Ed Lee will be co-hosting a District 8 Town Hall Thursday evening, April 14 at the Mission High Auditorium.  Also in attendance will be District Attorney George Gascon, Chief of Police Jeff Godown, General Manager of Recreation and Parks Phil Ginsburg, Director of the Department of Public Works Ed Reiskin, and representatives from MUNI, the Public Utilities Commission and the San Francisco Unified School District.

NPC Meet the Mayor 2011

Park supporters meeting in City Hall with Mayor Ed Lee and Parks Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg earlier this year.

It is not often that City Hall comes to us. Let’s bake some brownies and show them we care.  The City is once again faced with more drastic budget cuts and as the Mayor’s Office stated would like, “to hear directly from San Franciscans about their budget concerns and ideas.”  Great! Mission Local’s report on the District 9 showed it to be a lively if sad affair.

We need to stand up alongside Parks Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg when he asks for consistent and adequate funding for our parks. “We have been asked to cut $43 million from our (Rec and Park’s) budget in the last seven years even though we get a mere 2 percent of The City’s general fund to steward approximately 12 percent of The City’s real estate.” Ginsburg wrote in a SF Examiner OpEd piece recently, “It is time for us to make recreation and park funding a priority. The future of San Francisco just might depend on it. ”
