When we gathered at Dolores Park at 9am it was covered in trash. It was a bit of a sad way to start an Earth Day Celebration. Enthusiastic volunteers from the neighborhood, the Bureau of Jewish Education, the Thomas Edison Charter Academy, and Dolores Park Dogs quickly collected the garbage covering the north lawn then worked their way through the rest of the park.
“I will say that when I got to the park at 10:30 this morning, it was pretty immaculate.” Scott Wiener, district 8 supervisor told Rec and Park, ”Staff and the volunteers did a tremendous job”. A special thank you to Adrian Field of Rec and Park and his wonderful team!
Paula Ginsburg, youth outreach educator and author of One Simple Thing, shared her book and environmental project with volunteers and visitors of the Park. Rosemary Cameron, board chair of San Francisco Parks Alliance spoke to volunteers about the importance of community involvement and taking care or our parks. A big thank you to Bi-Rite, Due Drop In and Rhea’s Deli for their generous donations to our Volunteers’ Lunch! Thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, and the SF Recreation and Parks Department for their help and energy in cleaning up the Park!
