The Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco are making cleaning up Dolores Park a regular part of their Summer routine. “We do this for 10 or 15 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday”, a group leader told us. They work in clean-ups between play and organized sprints. “Most of them like it”, she said.
Character building and civic engagement are built into the Boys and Girls Clubs programs. “We provide opportunities for our members to engage in their community through volunteer work and community service projects knowing that this teaches them to take personal responsibility for their community’s well being.”, the Clubs web-site states.
We would like to give The Club and the kids a big shout out for “doing the right thing”.
