At the September 23 Breakfast and A Park Clean Up, District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener, gave an update on the upcoming renovations. “January we are going to finally start the renovation. We are going to get the Park renovated in 2014.” Scott assured those crowed into the small Bi-Rite Creamery space and gathered out on the sidewalk. “Everything about this Park is going to be better. But we need to make sure that when we reopen the Park, we have a culture shift, and we need to get people to stop trashing it. We want to make sure when it reopens, that this Park is going to continue to be really the gem of our park system.”
The January start date for the renovation was confirmed by Jake Gilchrist, Capital Improvement Manager for the Dolores Park project who told us the city is now ready to request quotes from contractors to build out the improvements to Dolores. “We’re looking at either December or January as long as bidding goes smoothly.” Jake said.
Also present for the Giant Sweep/Breakfast and A Park Clean Up were Rec and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg, Director of Public Works Mohammed Nuru, and volunteers from Bi-Rite, Cervecería de MateVeza, the Arc, Whole Foods Market, and neighbors. All total we had over 40 volunteers in addition to the large contingent of City VIPs and staffers.
